The light rests in a low state,
holding the quiet anticipation of sunrise.
As touch approaches, illumination slowly intensifies,
rising without urgency.

The viewer’s presence becomes part of the system,
sensed through proximity and gesture.
Subtle bodily actions accumulate,
transforming touch into a visible shift of light.

Sunrise Sunset no.2: sunrise is an interactive light installation that responds to touch, grasp, and proximity. A 3-axis accelerometer and capacitive fiber are mapped to the LED’s on/off state and brightness, translating subtle bodily gestures into shifts in illumination.

Rather than emphasizing direct control or immediate feedback, the work is designed to respond gradually. Small variations in pressure, movement, and distance accumulate into changes in light, encouraging viewers to slow down and become attentive to their own bodily presence.

Through this process, light functions not only as an output but as a medium of perception. The installation invites viewers to experience how their gestures often unconscious or habitual can be sensed, interpreted, and transformed into a visible and atmospheric response.

By foregrounding touch and embodied interaction, Sunrise Sunset no.2: sunrise explores the relationship between the human body and responsive systems, asking how intimacy, proximity, and care might be registered through light rather than instruction or command.
